shop local: Low

low vintage

Low is hands-down my favorite vintage shop in Charlottesville. Located on a side street along the Downtown Mall, it's a large, well-organized space full of really wearable vintage for women and men.

The space itself makes for an enjoyable shopping experience; the warm lighting, cobblestone tiles, and vintage display case make you feel transported to a cool underground shop in the 1970s. Other than the environment and the good selection, what I enjoy most about Low is how spacious and organized it is. I've been to many vintage stores that are overcrowded with racks, dimly lit, and poorly sorted. While I don't mind digging around at a thrift shop, I prefer a more streamlined experience when a higher price point is involved. Pieces at Low are clearly sorted by gender, item, and style. If I want a sundress or a denim skirt, I know exactly where to find it. Additionally, Nora, the owner, is friendly and knowledgeable.

My friend and I walked out with a 1940s lace dress and a 70s-esque denim skirt, respectively.

If you live in Charlottesville, I strongly encourage you to check out Low for an ethical, enjoyable vintage shopping experience. Check out their lookbook here.
