The Namaste Way

namaste charter school

Namaste Charter School is a Chicago-based, urban alternative school that believes that taking a more holistic approach to education is the key to greater academic success.

Namaste integrates health and wellness activities into its full year schedule to provide students with focus and consistency, two vital components of the educational process that are often difficult to maintain in a distracting urban environment.

The school operates on six pillars to ensure that standards are being met across the board: balanced learning; language and culture; collaborative practice; movement; nutrition, health, and wellness; and peaceful school culture.

As a testament to the success of the school's curriculum, Namaste was ranked as an outstanding charter school in Chicago (March 2013) by the Fordham Institute and was the highest achieving charter school in Chicago on the 2012 Illinois Standards Achievement Test.

Namaste depends on the support of community members to strengthen its curriculum; in fact, 20% of overall funding comes from private donors. You can become a Friend of Namaste by donating monthly.

If you live near Chicago, don't hesitate to show your support by attending local Namaste Charter School fundraising events:

  • June 2, 2013 - Chicago Fire Rescue Fundraiser at Toyota Park (tickets available here)

  • September 8, 2013 - Walk or run with Team Namaste in the Chicago Half Marathon (registration and information available here).

Namaste Charter School helps underprivileged children achieve their full potential in the face of economic and environmental obstacles. They "change the trajectory of underserved children's lives," giving them a better chance of becoming thriving and active members of their communities, letting their voices be heard where they otherwise might have been drowned out.
